Professional Tax Calculator (India – Advanced State Wise)
About Professional Tax in India
Professional Tax is a state-level statutory tax imposed on salaried employees, professionals, and self-employed individuals in certain Indian states. Unlike Income Tax, which is collected by the Central Government, Professional Tax is levied and administered by individual State Governments under their respective Professional Tax Acts.
The Constitution of India permits states to charge Professional Tax up to a maximum limit of ₹2,500 per financial year. Each state defines its own slab structure based on monthly gross salary. Some states apply fixed monthly deductions, while others use slab-based progressive systems. Maharashtra follows a unique pattern where February deduction may increase to ₹300 so that the total annual tax reaches the permissible cap.
Professional Tax Calculation Formula
Monthly PT = Slab rate applicable on Monthly Gross Salary
Yearly PT = Sum of monthly deductions (Maximum ₹2,500 per year)
