What is Gain in Decibels (dB)?

Gain is a measure of how much a signal is amplified or attenuated when it passes through a circuit or system. In electronics and communication systems, gain is commonly expressed in decibels (dB) because it conveniently represents very large or very small ratios using logarithmic scaling.

Types of Gain

There are three main types of gain used in electronics:
